American Psychiatric Foundation Awards for Advancing Minority Mental Health Supported by a grant from Otsuka America Pharmaceutical, Inc. Applications must be postmarked by February 12, 2014.  The Awards for Advancing Minority Mental Health were established in 2003 by the American Psychiatric Foundation with the support of Otsuka America Pharmaceutical, Inc., to recognize mental health professionals (psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, etc.), other health professionals, mental health programs and organizations, and others that have undertaken innovative and supportive efforts to: • Raise awareness in underserved minority communities about mental illness including the need for early recognition, access to and the availability of treatment, and the cultural barriers to treatment. • Increase access to quality mental health services for underserved minorities. • Improve the quality of care for underserved minorities, particularly those in the public health system or with severe mental illness. Recipients of the 2014 Awards for Advancing Minority Mental Health will receive an award check in the amount of $5,000, a plaque acknowledging their receipt of this award, and recognition in Foundation and American Psychiatric Association (APA) publications and websites.
