Balance performance in patients with heart failure

Heart Failure (HF) is defined as a complex clinical syndrome caused by a structural and/or functional cardiac abnormality, resulting in reduced cardiac output and/or elevated intracardiac pressures at rest or during stress.1,2 Decreased cardiac performance is one of the major causes of exercise intolerance.3 Additionally, changes in skeletal muscle mass, density, fiber type, oxidative metabolism and mitochondrial function lead to muscle dysfunction in HF.4 Functional difficulties mentioned above have been reported to increase the likelihood of falling in HF.
