Conversion of dietary polyunsaturated fats between humans and rodents: A review of allometric scaling models

Food and bioactives in food are increasingly becoming important in health promotion and disease prevention. In order to better investigate the potential physiological effects of dietary constituents and their potential mechanism of actions, preclinical experimental rodent models are used because they are cost effective, duration of the experiments are much shorter, tissues can be harvested for analysis, experimental conditions can be highly controlled, and working with humans present unique challenges not experienced with rodent models.
