“Autism spectrum disorder across the lifespan: part I” was published to coincide with World Autism Awareness Month in April 2020, to begin a “Year of Kindness” with a call for “one million acts of kindness, big and small.”1 As we go to press, acts of kindness are more needed than ever fo r our patients with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) amid the increased anxiety, uncertainty, and even terror inflicted by a pandemic that has dramatically altered daily routines and mandated social distancing. For physicians and other mental health clinicians, medical acts of kindness must be underpi nned by professional knowledge and humanizing clinical experiences for this growing patient population.
