The toxicity data from POP-RT: Proving the “Obvious” and challenging the “Norm”

POP-RT trial by Murthy, et al [1] addresses the impact of addition of elective pelvic irradiation (WPRT) in node negative locally advanced prostate cancer (PC). Although the primary endpoint of biochemical progression free survival has not been reported yet, the study showed that there is a significant increase in late grade 2+ genitourinary (GU) toxicity in patients who received WPRT. The authors noted that this corresponded to irradiation of urinary bladder (UB) to doses between 30-50Gy. We congratulate the authors for this important study and would like to present the following observations:
