Conclusion: Mesenteric ischemia is a clinical emergency. In patients with risk factors and abdominal signs, the clinical suspicion for this condition should be high. Although rare, both HPVG and PI are important radiological clues that usually indicate the presence of mesenteric ischemia with consequent intestinal necrosis.

ConclusionsThis study demonstrated that, compared to standard ECIRS, mini-ECIRS maintained SFR without increasing perioperative complications, tended to reduce postoperative pain and had a potential to reduce bleeding-related complications. This report suggests the advantages of ECIRS miniaturization for renal stones.

CONCLUSIONS: Sedation has fewer side effects and complications related to the transrectal prostate biopsy procedure with respect to transrectal local anesthesia. The choice of the antibiotic prophylaxis scheme is decisive in the onset of complications arising from the performance of a transrectal prostate biopsy. Authors: Fernández Conesa M, Milena Muñoz A, Valero González MÁ Abstract We read with interest the article by Guido Villa-Gómez, Manuel Alejandro Mahler and Dante Manazzoni "A new case of pseudoaneurysm of the right hepatic artery secondary to laparoscopic cholecystectomy". A 57-year-old cholecystectomized female was admitted due to abdominal pain with an analytical pattern of cholestasis and liver enzyme alterations, with cholangitis that progressed to septic shock of a biliary origin with gradual anemia and hypotension. ConclusionsThis is the first case report to describe pneumorachis and pneumocephalus following blunt trauma with pneumothorax, but no spinal or skull fractures. The mechanism that is probably involved here is a migration of air with subcutaneous emphysema and a pleural hernia into the spinal canal. However, in cases of pneumorachis or pneumocephalus, skull fractures need to be investigated as these require surgery and appropriate vaccination to prevent meningitis.

ConclusionsThe overall VTE rate after CABG has been low. However, the condition has been associated with worse 30-day postoperative outcomes and complications. The independent predictors of VTE development included a history of bleeding disorders, congestive heart failure in the 30 days before surgery, and operative time of ≥310 minutes. Understanding these risk factors should aid physicians in the decisions regarding prophylaxis and treatment.

A new blood filtration technology may prove to be life-saving for patients whose normally healthy inflammatory response to injury or illness has gone into overdrive, resulting in fatally high levels of cytokines in their blood. In an interview with MD+DI, Dr. Phillip Chan, MD, PhD, CEO of CytoSorbents Corp., explained that inflammation, and the production of substances called cytokines that drive inflammation, are the body’s natural response to heal injury or infection. But sometimes, the inflammatory response is so severe in such conditions as sepsis and infection, burn injuries, trauma, pancreatitis, li...
