Anti-pruritic and anti-inflammatory effects of natural verbascoside through selective inhibition of temperature-sensitive Ca2+-permeable TRPV3 channel

Pruritus and inflammation are the most common symptoms in skin diseases, including eczema, atopic dermatitis and allergic contact dermatitis [1]. The warm temperature-sensitive and calcium-permeable transient receptor potential vanilloid 3 (TRPV3) channel is abundantly expressed in the keratinocytes, and gain-of-function mutations of TRPV3 cause skin pruritus and inflammation in rodents and humans, suggesting that pharmacological inhibition of overactive TRPV3 may be beneficial for therapy of pruritus or dermatitis [2].
