A Penny Saved Should Be a Penny Earned

The avoidance of complications is an area of clinical care where patient benefit, caregiver satisfaction, and the interests of healthcare funders are fully aligned. So it is with disappointment even in 2019 to sit in lectures at scientific meetings listening to speakers claiming that atrial fibrillation after cardiac surgery (AFACS) is inevitable and inconsequential. Clearly, neither is true.
