Publication date: Available online 13 December 2019Source: Inorganica Chimica ActaAuthor(s): Sonja Ž. Đurić, Marija Mojicevic, Sandra Vojnovic, Hubert Wadepohl, Tina P. Andrejević, Nevena Lj. Stevanović, Jasmina Nikodinovic-Runic, Miloš I. Djuran, Biljana Đ. GlišićAbstractIn a continuing search for a novel metal-containing antimicrobial agents, the present study reports the synthesis, characterization and biological evaluation of two silver(I) complexes with 1,10-phenanthroline-based ligands, [Ag(1,10-phen)2]CF3COO.H2O (Ag1) and [Ag(CF3COO)(5,6-epoxy-1,10-phen)]2 (Ag2), 1,10-phen is 1,10-phenanthroline and 5,6-epoxy-1,10-phen is 5,6-epoxy-5,6-dihydro-1,10-phenanthroline. The complexes were characterized by different spectroscopic techniques (IR, 1H and 13C NMR and UV-Vis), while the crystal structure of Ag2 complex was determined by a single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. The spectroscopic data confirmed that the structure of Ag1 complex, with silver(I) ion tetrahedrally coordinated by two bidentate 1,10-phen ligands, is in accordance to the previous report (S.E. Paramonov et al, 2003). The crystallographic results showed that in dinuclear Ag2 complex, both Ag(I) ions are coordinated bidentately by 5,6-epoxy-1,10-phen and monodentately by trifluoroacetate, with presence of the short Ag∙∙∙Ag contact of 2.963 Å. Both silver(I) complexes were evaluated in vitro for antimicrobial activity against four bacterial and four Candida species, showi...

This study explores the optimized conditions for the maximal prodigiosin production, characterization of prodigiosin, biomedical applications against therapeutically important diseases. Prodigiosin was extracted, purified using different solvents and the purified prodigiosin was characterized using FT-IR, UV–Vis Spectrometry and GC-MS analysis. The maximal production of prodigiosin was identified using different optimization methods. UV–Vis spectrophotometry showed the absorbance peak at 530 nm and the FT-IR result revealed prodigiosin contains most of the functional groups that are corresponding to the liter...

In this study, one bioactive coumarin analog was obtained as a result of biotransformation of three inactive coumarin derivatives by free cells of Candida albicans. The bioactive analog was purified by Column chromatography and HPLC. The presence of coumarin moiety in the biotrasformed product was confirmed by λmax at 350-400 nm and FT-IR spectrum. The structure of the purified compound established by LC-MS and 1H-NMR suggests the chances of biotransformation of 7-(3-(cyclopropylamino)-2-hydroxypropoxy)-4-methyl-2H-chromen-2-one (MW 289 Da) into 7-(3-Cyclopropylamino-2-hydroxy-propoxy)-4-methoxymethyl-...

In this study, the three natural compounds 6-methoxymellein (3), angelicoin B (4) and ellagic acid as well as nine novel 3,4-dihydroisocoumarins (Figure 1) were analyzed regarding their cytotoxicity in cancer cells and inhibition of the endogenously expressed human ABC transporters P-gp, BCRP, and MRP1 and of the yeast transporter Pdr5. For further insights into the mechanism of action, Pdr5 ATPase and substrate transport assays were performed. These results were complemented with molecular docking studies that indicate that differences in the inhibitory power of the investigated 3,4-dihydroisocoumarins with respect to P-g...
