Long-term endemic situation caused by a linezolid- and meticillin-resistant clone of Staphylococcus epidermidis in a tertiary hospital

ConclusionAn ST2 LZD- and meticillin-resistant clone was found in the ICU and also in wards with low consumption of LZD. This highlights the need to implement and maintain infection control measures as well as antimicrobial stewardship programmes in all hospital units in order to preserve the efficacy of LZD.

In this study, the recombinant nonstructural 2B protein of EV-A71 was successfully produced in human neuroblastoma SH-SY5Y cells and evaluated for its effects on induction of the cell apoptosis and the pathway involved. ConclusionsThe paper describes a strategy that applies newspaper as proxies to monitor outbreaks of infectious diseases and to study the epidemiology. It has potential applicability in some developing countries and regions with relatively poor medical infrastructures and records. Clearly, large national newspapers in India provide a better source of information on diseases than international outlets. ConclusionsThese data give insight into the epidemiology of CPPA in three centres in Germany over a period of 3 years. Carbapenemases are a relevant resistance mechanism in 4MRGN-P. aeruginosa, illustrated by genetically related VIM-2-producing strains that seem to be endemic in this region. Our data suggest that infection control measures should especially focus on controlling transmission on the ICU and support the need for a local molecular surveillance system.
