Induced sputum in systemic sclerosis: A new potential for biomarkers in SSc

Conclusion: Our study show that SSc exhibit raised sputum levels of IGFBP-1, IL-8, TGF-β, YKL-40 and MMP-7 without any significant differences between SSc and SSc-ILD patients. Those biomarkers could represent an infraclinical parameter of lung disease in SSc and their utility has to be evaluated in a longitudinal study to identify whether they can be associated to the pathophysiological process in lung disease or relevant in predicting the potential evolutivity of the disease.
