Pulmonary emphysema not combined with lung fibrosis in systemic sclerosis

We presented three cases of patients with SSc, in which High Resolution Computed Tomography examinations showed emphysema with atypical distribution and radiological presentation, without or with mild signs of fibrosing lung disease, that stabilized after immunosuppressive treatment.

CONCLUSIONS: HVLF and EDS produced a deep intranasal/intrasinal deposition in the silicone cast compared with conventional nasal spray delivery; both deposited liquid inside the surgically opened sinuses. HVLF offers the benefit of lavage, whereas EDS may be more efficient and convenient. PMID: 31813944 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

BooneAbstractX-ray Fluorescence Computed Tomography (XFCT) is an emerging imaging technique that provides elemental distribution in objects non-invasively. To predict and optimize the experimental outcome of XFCT, data generated by Monte Carlo (MC) simulation is usually used. However, MC codes typically require extended computing times to generate sufficient data. In this paper, we report an XFCT simulation method based on analytical computat...

CONCLUSIONS: The results have implications not only for understanding the stresses and strains within the ACL under different flexion angles, but also for providing preliminary data for the biomechanical and medical experts in regard of the injuries which may occur to the ACL at relatively higher flexion angles. In this study, two TA15 titanium alloy block parts were built by HWAAM with two batches of wire. Notches on the wire surface and wire warpage aggravated the porosity of the built part. Quantitative characterization and analysis of pores were performed by X-ray computed tomography. Most of the pores were clustered at the fusion boundary. The porosity of the bead body zone was higher than that of the bead overlap zone. The equivalent diameters of pores primarily concentrated in a narrow range of variation. Spherical trapped gas pores were induced by hydrogen rejection. Irregularly shaped lack of fusion pores were caused by a...

We present a rare case of a major haemorrhage in a 46-year-old patient, 26 days post-vaginoplasty. An urgent computed tomography scan identified a large retrovesical collection, with high-density contents in keeping with recent haemorrhage, containing a 6mm pseudoaneurysm within the right lateral wall. Following resuscitation, the patient was urgently treated with successful embolization of the feeding artery (branch of the prostatic artery), with pushable coils. We highlight the importance of expedient, life-saving management in a rare post-operative complication.

A 48-year-old woman underwent kidney transplantation for end-stage renal disease. Fifteen days after transplantation, the patient presented with strong abdominal and back pain on the right side, and blood examination showed severe anemia. Contrast-enhanced computed tomography and emergent angiography was performed, which showed extravasation from the lumba...

CONCLUSIONS: DNI treatment on an emergency basis requires proper diagnosis and effective management. To confirm diagnosis and prevent serious complications, it is essential for physicians to recognize the spaces of the head and neck that are likely to be affected by DNI. A 29-year-old woman with stage IIBX classic Hodgkin's lymphoma presented with a 5.1  × 7.6-cm (mass to mediastinal ratio 0.34) anterior mediastinal mass and additional involvement of the subcarinal, posterior mediastinal, and right infraclavicular lymph nodes (Fig. 1). The patient was otherwise healthy, a lifelong nonsmoker, and European Cooperative Oncology Group performance s tatus 0. She had a National Comprehensive Cancer Network International Prognostic Score of 1. She received 2 cycles of adriamycin, bleomycin, vinblastine, and dacarbazine (ABVD), and interim positron emission tomography demonstr...
