Hepatitis B virus seroprevalence among HIV-infected patients receiving combination antiretroviral therapy three decades after universal neonatal hepatitis B immunization program in Taiwan

ConclusionsThe overall prevalence of HBV/HIV coinfection remained high among HIV-infected patients in Taiwan. Despite recommendations of the HIV treatment guidelines for the management of HBV infection, a substantial proportion of HIV/HBV-coinfected patients received cART containing only LAM for HBV infection.

Abstract Given the high burden of HIV and other sexually transmitted infections (STIs) among female sex workers (FSW) and their potential role in bridging HIV/STIs into the general population, estimating the prevalence of HIV/STIs among FSW is essential for future research and policy developments. This systematic review and meta-analysis synthesize the available HIV/STIs data among FSW in Iran. We searched MEDLINE, PsycINFO, CINAHL, Embase, Web of Science, Google Scholar, and Iranian databases from inception through to January 2018. Inclusion criteria were original quantitative studies that measured HIV/STIs preva...

Authors: Tang Q, Zhang X, Lu H Abstract Acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS), hepatitis B virus (HBV), hepatitis C virus (HCV), gonorrhea and syphilis are the major sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) in the world, which are the focus of epidemic prevention and control in China. The epidemiological trend analysis of STDs in Shanghai could reflect the epidemic situation of these diseases in high-income areas of China, providing a reference for how to control their epidemic. Although the overall incidence rate of infectious diseases levelled off after 2009, Shanghai still faces many new obstacles in the fight ...

The objective of this study was to evaluate the HCV prevalence and incidence among Chinese blood donors from 2013 to 2016. STUDY DESIGN AND METHODS: Whole blood and apheresis platelet donations collected from five Chinese blood centers from June 1, 2013, to December 31, 2016, were screened in parallel by two different enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays for anti-HIV 1/2, hepatitis B surface antigen, anti-HCV, and syphilis. Screening-reactive samples were further confirmed by western blot. Confirmatory positive rates among first-time and repeat donors were used to estimate the prevalence and incidence rates. Multivariab...

Discussion Transplantation is not a common problem for primary care physicians but when a child’s disease has progressed to end-stage organ failure, transplantation can be the only treatment available. While the primary care provider usually is not involved in the daily management of patients before, during and after transplantation, they can be involved in many areas. These can include providing appropriate primary and acute care, ordering and obtaining necessary medical tests, medications and equipment, assisting with medical insurance, providing medical history and records to consultants, translating medical infor...

acute;ré S Abstract A 34-year-old man presented with a painless lesion of the glans present for more than 4 years. The patient became HIV-positive in 2011, and he has been treated with tenofovir, emtricitabine, and efavirenz. A CD4 count performed 4 months prior was 570 cells/mL3; syphilis, hepatitis B, and hepatitis C serologies performed on the same date were non-reactive. PMID: 31145067 [PubMed - in process]

In this study, we investigated the immunological changes in the levels of monocytes and Tregs and the associations between these cell types in HIV-1-infected MSM with syphilis. Methods Study Participants We enrolled 81 participants in this study. These individuals were assigned to four groups on the basis of serologic testing and HIV-1 results, namely, the rapid plasma reagin (RPR+) group, the CHI group, the CHI&RPR+ group, and the healthy control group. HIV-1 infection status was determined with the HIV-1/2 antigen/antibody combo enzyme immunoassay (Beijing Wantai Biological Medical Company, Beijing, China). Positive ...
