In this study we adopted a combined DNA-based approach to verify the identity of the declared species in five categories of commercial insect-based products (mt COI DNA barcoding) and to characterize plant declared ingredients or contaminants (nu ITS2 DNA metabarcoding) with particular attention to putative elements of allergenic concern belonging, for example to the insect rearing substrate. Moreover, the same approach has been used to assess its sensitivity to cases of contamination and counterfeits to insect flour with low cost (and potentially allergenic) vegetable flours like wheat and soybean. Results show the succes...

Conclusions: Collectively, these findings suggest that although NiO surface area correlates best with acute pulmonary injury and inflammation following respiratory exposure, other physico-chemical properties may contribute to the modulation of immune responses in the lung. Exhaled TGF-β1 levels before and after an exercise challenge in asthmatic and healthy children, and during exacerbation. J Asthma. 2019 Nov 11;:1-10 Authors: Keskin O, Ozkars MY, Gogebakan B, Kucukosmanoglu E, Keskin M, Bayram H Abstract Background: There is conflicting data regarding the role of transforming growth factor-β1 (TGF-β1) in the pathogenesis of airway hyper-reactivity and asthma exacerbation. Objective: To investigate the role of exhaled-TGF-β1 in exercise-induced bronchospasm (EIB) in asthmatic and nonasthmatic healthy children, and in asthma exacerbation and asthma con...

Authors: Ikuno T, Ito S, Inoue T Abstract Mast cells are key players in the inflammatory response with an important role in allergic reactions and are therefore useful for assessing the risk of anaphylaxis. However, they are difficult to isolate due to their low abundance and wide distribution. To overcome this, we generated and characterized mast cell-like cells derived from human induced pluripotent stem (hiPS) cells. These hiPS cell-derived mast cells (hiPS-MCs) were generated using recombinant human bone morphogenetic protein 4 (BMP4), vascular endothelial growth factor 165 (VEGF), stem cell factor (SCF), inter...

ConclusionIn our cohort, NTZ associated IRR mainly occurred during the infusion period compared to the one-hour observational period. Also, the first IRR exclusively occurred within the first 4 NTZ administrations. However, further multi-center studies with a larger sample size are needed to capture rare and serious events that could emerge during the observational period and to make clinical recommendations.

Authors: Funaki Y, Ogasawara N, Kawamura Y, Yoshimine T, Tamura Y, Izawa S, Tsuyuki T, Ebi M, Sasaki M, Kasugai K Abstract We experienced marked efficacy with steroid treatment of three patients with jackhammer esophagus (JHE). An esophageal biopsy revealed eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE) in two patients. One of the patients without EoE had eosinophilia and an increased serum immunoglobulin E level, and endoscopic ultrasonography revealed thickening of the esophageal muscularis propria. Esophageal manometry was used to diagnose all cases of JHE. Treatment consisted of steroid administration, which improved the sympt...

iyasut Athletes are prone to several health complications, including upper respiratory tract infections, allergies, and gastrointestinal discomforts during practice and after the performance due to the intense exercise, travel, insufficient rest and restricted food consumption. Probiotics are well known as complementary therapeutic and health supplements for several diseases and disorders. Studies suggest that the intervention of probiotics improved the health status of elite athletes, but the results are not consistent in all the studies. The beneficial effect of probiotic supplementation profoundly relies on species ...

To assess the safety and efficacy of oral immune interventions, it is important and required by regulation to assess the impact of those interventions not only on the immune system, but also on other organs such as the gut as the porte d'entrée. Despite clear indications that the immune system interacts with several physiological functions of the gut, it is still unknown which pathways and molecules are crucial to assessing the impact of nutritional immune interventions on gut functioning. Here we used a network-based systems biology approach to clarify the molecular relationships between immune system and gut funct...
