AbstractPurposeBreast surgery is an exceedingly common procedure and associated with an increased incidence of acute and chronic pain. Preemptive regional anesthesia techniques may improve postoperative analgesia for patients undergoing breast surgery. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of preoperative bilateral serratus plane block on postoperative opioid consumption in patients undergoing breast reduction surgery.MethodsAfter ethical board approval, 40 patients undergoing breast reduction surgery were randomized into 2 groups: control group (Group C,n = 20) and serratus plane block group (Grou...

Epidural injections are routinely used for management of radicular pain and are prevalent nonsurgical interventions for chronic low back pain. Pneumocephalus is a rare complication that may occur as a result of inadvertent dural puncture with an epidural needle. Pneumocephalus-induced cranial nerve deficit is also rare, with only a few reported cases.

What is the Definition of “Opioid”? The definition of opioid is as follows: Opioids are a class of drugs that include the illegal drug heroin, synthetic opioids such as fentanyl, and pain relievers available legally by prescription, such as oxycodone, hydrocodone, codeine, morphine, and many others. Opioids work by interacting with the opioid receptors on nerve cells in the body and brain. By interacting with these receptors, opioids medications are able to cut off communication between the pain point on the body to the brain. We report a case, describe the surgical techniques used, and propose an algorithm for managing the treatment of a young patient who presents with bilateral posterior dislocations related to a seizure. At her most recent follow-up (57 mo postoperative for the left shoulder and 41 mo postoperative for the right shoulder), she denied any apprehension or instability in either shoulder and had no further dislocations. She reported mild chronic pain in both shoulders, worse in the right than the left. She has a smooth passive range of motion with no crepitus in either shoulder. Her range of motion in forward elevat...

Pain is the most pervasive distressing symptom following cardiac surgery. Forty percent of postoperative cardiac patients report inadequate pain management. Undertreated acute pain results in increased anxiety, delayed wound healing, and increased chance of persistent chronic pain. Foot massage is a safe, visible complementary approach to manage acute pain following surgery.

Tendinopathy affects also middle-aged overweight patients with no history of increased physical activity. Tendinopathy is the result of a chronic failure of healing response. Several conservative therapeutic options have been proposed. The management of tendinopathy is primarily conservative, and many patients respond to such measures. Eccentric exercises and shock wave therapy provide promising excellent clinical results. H...
