Ex-vivo surgical model for “Barbed Snore Surgery”: a feasibility study

ConclusionThis ex-vivo ovine surgical model could represent the right tool for BSS training thanks to readily available and inexpensive specimens. Moreover, it appears to present the realistic anatomy and tissue consistence essential for an adequate surgical simulation.

ConclusionsThe presence of dysphagia in patients with moderate to severe apnea is frequent and subclinical, reinforcing the need to investigate this symptom in this group of patients. However, the presence of dysphagia did not result in worsening in patients' quality of life, suggesting that, although frequent, its effect is mild. There was no relevance regarding the association of clinical and polysomnographic parameters with the presence of dysphagia.ResumoIntroduçãoExistem evidências de que o trauma ocasionado pelo ronco na faringe poderia ocasionar disfagia em pacientes com apneia obstrutiva do sono...

Conclusions:The differential results of heritability and familial aggregation of OSA in normal weight and overweight subgroups substantiated the recommendation of separating childhood OSA into normal weight and overweight subtypes. In the overweight subgroup, there may be obesity-independent components involved in the genetic variance of OAHI, although a significant proportion of the genetic variance is shared with obesity.Citation:Au CT, Zhang J, Cheung JYF, Chan KCC, Wing YK, Li AM. CONCLUSION: CPAP indication without a previous sleep study showed a low sensitivity (≅ 22%) but a specificity greater than 95% in patients with high pretest probability for OSA (snoring, report of frequent apneas, BMI> 25 kg/m2 and sleepiness or tiredness plus comorbidity). Conclusions Lateral-expansion pharyngoplasty represents a new surgical strategy for the treatment of OSAS in patients with palatal collapse by combining two different techniques: lateral and expansion pharyngoplasty. The two techniques, performed as a one-stage procedure, led to improvements in excessive daytime sleepiness, snoring, and PSG respiratory parameters by acting on lateral and retropalatal collapse, producing favorable results with good applicability in otolaryngology clinical practice. AbstractPurposeThe gender differences in patients with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) are not fully understood so far, as previous studies had conflicting results. No reports have addressed the differences in OSA between Chinese men and women. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to investigate the clinical and polysomnographic differences between Chinese men and women with OSA.MethodsThis case-paired control retrospective study included 580 consecutive Chinese patients (290 males and 290 females) newly diagnosed as OSA by overnight polysomnography from the Sleep Disorders Center of Tangdu Hospital affiliated to the Fou...
