31.3 specific learning disability in math is associated with risk for pediatric bipolar disorder
Children and adolescents who are offspring of parents with bipolar disorder (BD) present an increased risk for mental disorders compared with the general population. Indicators of risk and protection in these youth are scarcely studied. Mathematics learning problems are overexpressed in children and adolescents with BD, and we hypothesize that those youth who are the offspring of parents with BD will also present higher rates of mathematics learning problems than typically developing youth.
