48.3 phase 2 study of oxytocin in children with asd to enhance reciprocal social behaviors: soars-b

Many small studies of intranasal oxytocin in individuals with ASD, frequently involving single doses of intranasal oxytocin or short periods of treatment, have yielded mixed results concerning clinically significant benefits. The Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development-sponsored trial sought to conduct a large trial of sustained treatment in a large group of children with ASD, who were heterogeneous with respect to age, verbal abilities, and comorbidities, to obtain necessary information to determine whether to proceed with a pivotal trial and decide on the appropriate sample characteristics and outcomes for such a trial.
