3.4 is physical exercise beneficial for children and adolescents who suffer from depression?

The Swedish National Board of Health and Welfare recommends that children participate in physical exercise for at least 1 hour daily, but only 1 in 7 manages to do so. A substantial amount of research has been conducted on adult populations providing strong evidence to support benefits of physical exercise on health, but there has been limited focus on young people. The aim of this paper is to gather existing evidence and use the results to determine whether there is strong enough support to initiate a pilot project where physical exercise can be used as a complement to the current treatment plan for children with depression.
