3.8 causes for repeated psychiatric hospitalizations in youth: initial quality improvement review to reduce recidivism

Suicide attempts, a leading cause of death among adolescents, have been steadily increasing. We reviewed 1-year data in our Intensive Out-Patient (IOP) program and identified adolescents with multiple (more than one) hospitalizations. Our IOP program consists of process groups for adolescents, parents, psychoeducation groups, and multifamily groups. Here we report initial analyses of factors driving repeated hospitalizations and evaluations of data after implementation of family therapy, which was identified as a gap in treatment as part of IOP services.
