Back Pain: Clinical Updates in Women's Health Care Primary and Preventive Care Review.

Back Pain: Clinical Updates in Women's Health Care Primary and Preventive Care Review. Obstet Gynecol. 2019 Sep;134(3):664 Authors: Tailor Y, Preston-Hsu E Abstract Every age group experiences back pain, a common reason for activity limitation. Management of back pain in a woman is challenging because of physiologic and hormonal changes through the woman's life cycle. The treatment is dictated by etiology and a woman's stage of life or reproductive events, such as pregnancy, breastfeeding, and menopause. Most episodes of low back pain are temporary with minimal long-term sequelae, but recurrent and long-lasting episodes require more thorough clinical evaluation. This monograph describes the anatomy of the spine; illustrates a focused, thorough evaluation, including obtaining a medical history and performing a physical examination; discusses warning signs and symptoms of more serious etiologies; provides recommendations for further testing or referral; and offers case vignettes of common causes of low back pain as a woman progresses from young adulthood to advanced age. Remarkable advancements in modern material technology have helped the diversity of materials for orthopaedic implant application. As such, nanomaterials can simulate the surface properties of natural tissues, especially with respect to surface topography, surface chemistry, surface energy, and ...

We aimed to verify the interaction between three FADS gene polymorphisms (rs174561; rs174575; rs3834458) and dietary α-linolenic acid (ALA) or linoleic/α-linolenic acid ratio (LA/ALA) and plasma concentrations of omega-3 (n-3) PUFAs in pregnant women. Of the 250 women evaluated, the homozygous for the rs174561 and rs3834458 minor...

Authors: Zhou NB, Wang KG, Fu ZJ Abstract The combination of morphine and ketamine is considered safe and efficacious in many patients. However, a considerable number of immunomodulatory effects have been reported to be produced by both morphine and ketamine. The aim of the present study was to assess the direct effect of morphine and a low dose of ketamine on the T cells of patients with refractory cancer pain in vitro. Venous blood was obtained from patients with refractory cancer pain and peripheral blood mononuclear cells were isolated using the Ficoll-Hypaque density gradient method. Anti-CD3 beads were used t...

In this study, the safety, efficacy, and advantages of Q-PTP and single-pulse laser mode of 1064-nm QSNY in the treatment of melasma were compared. Twelve healthy women were enrolled in this split-face study. Q-PTP and single-pulse laser mode of 1064-nm QSNY were applied to the treatment side and the control side, respectively. Physician's global assessment, patients' self-assessment and the modified melasma area and severity index (mMASI) scores were used to quantify pigmentation changes. Side effects were recorded. Mean mMASI scores were decreased significantly at the 4th and 12th-week follow-up visit compared to the bas...

Authors: Del Prete S, Caraglia M, Luce A, Montella L, Galizia G, Sperlongano P, Cennamo G, Lieto E, Capasso E, Fiorentino O, Aliberti M, Auricchio A, Iodice P, Addeo R Abstract Neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) of breast cancer (BC) improves outcomes, especially in patients with locally advanced and inflammatory cancer. Further insight into clinic-pathological factors influencing outcomes is essential to define the optimal therapeutic strategy for each category of patients and to predict the response to the treatment. In total, 117 patients with BC were treated with NAC with or without trastuzumab between 2010 and 201...

LascellesAbstractOsteoarthritis (OA) is a debilitating disease in dogs. Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) are commonly used to treat OA; however, many dogs do not obtain adequate pain relief with an NSAID alone. This pilot study evaluated the systemic anti-inflammatory and mobility enhancing effects of an eggshell membrane-based nutritional supplement in dogs with OA-associated pain and mobility impairment. Twenty-seven dogs with OA-associated pain were enrolled int...

Conclusion: The discovery of these biomarkers provided a new theoretical basis and experimental basis for further study of the early diagnosis and pathogenesis of GDM. At the same time, LC-MS-based serum metabolomics methods also showed great application values in disease diagnosis and mechanism research.

In this study RBC populations of 82 non-smoking (RBC-NS) and 75 smoking (RBC-S) pregnant women were examined. Morphological variants were followed by confocal microscopy and quantified by a microscopy based intelligent analysis software. Fluorescence activated cell sorting was used to examine the translational and posttranslational regulation of RBC-NOS, Arginase-1 and the formation of the major product of lipid peroxidation, 4-hydroxy-2-nonenal. To survey the rheological parameters of RBCs like elasticity and plasticity atomic force microscopy-based measurement was applied. Significant morphological and functional differe...
