Learning point for cliniciansPhysicians should be aware of posterior reversible encephalopathy syndrome as a rare but serious complication if a patient with chronic severe anaemia develops neurological symptoms after red blood cell transfusion. Rapid correction of chronic anaemia without haemodynamic instability should be avoided.
