Tubeimoside-I sensitizes colorectal cancer cells to chemotherapy by inducing ROS-mediated impaired autophagolysosomes accumulation

Tubeimoside-I (TBM), a plant-derived bioactive compound, shows antitumor activity in different tumors and can enhance the efficacy of chemotherapeutic agents. However, the detail mechanism underlying remains t...

Authors: Zheng K, Yang Q, Xie L, Qiu Z, Huang Y, Lin Y, Tu L, Cui C Abstract Tumor metastasis and anticancer drug resistance are the major causes of mortality in patients with colorectal cancer (CRC). Due to the limitations of conventional biomarkers, it is urgent to identify novel and valid biomarkers to predict the progression and prognosis of CRC. Reverse transcription-quantitative polymerase chain reaction and western blotting were used to detect MAGT1 expression in CRC clinical samples or cell lines. Bioinformatics analysis was used to investigate the association between MAGT1 alteration and clinicopathologica...

The results demonstrated that the Peritoneal Regression Grade Score could be used in medical practice.AimThe aim was to evaluate the histological criteria used by the tumour regression grade (TRG) and Peritoneal Regression Grade Score (PRGS...

Authors: AlGhulayqah A, AlShamsan B, Bazarbashi S, Mohammed S, Mobeireek A Abstract Organizing pneumonia (OP) may be idiopathic or secondary to a variety of causes including drugs. OP and other forms of pulmonary toxicity secondary to cetuximab, however, have been described rarely. It is paramount to recognize and differentiate OP from other common conditions that cancer patients are prone to such as infection and pulmonary embolism. A 69-year-old man with colorectal cancer received ten cycles of palliative chemotherapy [FOLFIRI (5-Fluorouracil, Leucovorin, Irinotecan) and cetuximab] with clinical and radiological ...

Authors: Akbarzadeh Khiavi M, Safary A, Somi MH Abstract Despite rapid advances in diagnostic and treatment approaches, the overall survival rate of cancer has not been improved. Colorectal cancer (CRC) is recognized as the third leading cause of neoplasm-related deaths worldwide, in large part due to its considerable metastasis and drug resistance. For developing new anticancer strategies, rapid progression of multimodal nanomedicines and nanoconjugates has provided promising treatment modalities for effective therapy of cancer. The limitations of cancer chemotherapy might be overcome through the use of such nanos...

ConclusionsQLQ-CIPN20 scores and plasma platinum concentrations were not related to cumulative doses of oxaliplatin or interval from the last dose of oxaliplatin. Platinum was readily detectable in skin biopsies more than 60  months post-completion of FOLFOX. This is the first demonstration of platinum deposition in skin post-oxaliplatin treatment and it provides a possible mechanism for oxaliplatin-induced peripheral sensory neuropathy and its persistence.

Extracts from two Italian grape varieties showed distinct anti-cancer activity in three different mesothelioma cell lines, according to a recent multicenter study in Naples, Italy. The in-vitro findings strongly suggest potential of a novel, nonconventional mesothelioma treatment advancement in the future for this aggressive, difficult-to-treat cancer. Previous laboratory studies have shown a negative impact of grape-seed extracts on breast, colon and skin cancer cells, but this was the first using multiple human mesothelioma cell lines. “Our study on mesothelioma seems very promising, but it is a preliminary analysi...

This study aims to examine trends of patients with rectal cancer who are receiving care at large hospitals, to determine the patient characteristics associated with treatment at large hospitals, and to assess the relationships between treatment at large hospitals and guideline-recommended therapy. DESIGN: This study was a retrospective cohort analysis to assess trends in rectal cancer treatment. SETTINGS: Data from the National Cancer Institute’s Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results Patterns of Care studies were used. PATIENTS: The study population consisted of adults diagnosed with stages II/III rect...

CONCLUSION: Cytoreductive surgery and hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy for isolated low-volume colorectal peritoneal metastases are not safe and effective, with low morbidity. It offers selected patients a highly favorable overall and relapse-free survival. See Video Abstract at http://links.lww.com/DCR/B2.
