Low-Literacy Instructions Enable Successful Completion of Fecal Immunochemical Tests

Colorectal cancer (CRC) is the second leading cause of cancer-related deaths in the United States and a common cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide.1 Multiple randomized trials have shown that CRC screening reduces CRC incidence and mortality.2 As a result, several professional societies and the United States Preventative Services Task Force recommend CRC screening for all average-risk individuals aged 50 to 75 years. However, only 67% of average-risk individuals are up-to-date with CRC screening recommendations in 2016.
