Abdel-Salam, Elaine M. de Souza-Fagundes, Josane A. LessaAbstractCancer cells have high iron demand to mediate their rapid proliferation. Aiming to obtain cytotoxic compounds with potential iron metabolism disturbance in malignant cells, [Ga(HAPIH)(APIH)](NO3)2⋅2H2O (1) and [Ga(HPAmIH)(PAmIH)](NO3)2⋅2H2O (2) were synthesized with the iron chelators 2-acetylpyridine- and 2-pyridineformamide isonicotinoyl hydrazone (HA...

In this study, total circulating CD4 T cells were sorted into CD25+CXCR5− Treg-like, CD25+CXCR5+ Tfr-like, and CD25−CXCR5+ Tfh-like subsets. Data showed that the Tfr-like subset presented intermediate levels of both Foxp3 and Bcl-6, while the Treg-like subset was high in Foxp3 and low in Bcl-6, and the Tfh-like was high in Bcl-6 and low in Foxp3. Of note, the frequencies of Tfr-like and Treg-like cells were significantly elevated in breast cancer (BC) patients than in non-cancer (NC) controls. Tfr-like cells in BC patients also expressed significantly higher levels of Foxp3 than those in NC controls. Neither Tr...

Although rare, cutaneous metastases may be the initial presentation of an undetected primary malignancy. Among internal malignancies, breast carcinoma is the most frequent solid tumor to cause cutaneous metastases, occurring in a small minority of breast cancer patients, at a rate of approximately 2.5% per primary tumor. Clinically, the manifestations of cutaneous metastatic breast cancer can vary and may be quite subtle. This may include solitary or multiple skin papules, nodules with cutaneous discoloration or textural changes, and can mimic benign skin lesions.

Alternative splicing of pre-mRNAs plays a pivotal role during the establishment and maintenance of human cell types. Characterizing the trans-acting regulatory proteins that control alternative splicing in both healthy and malignant cells has therefore been the focus of much research. Recent work has established that even core protein components of the spliceosome, which are required for splicing to proceed, can nonetheless contribute to splicing regulation by modulating splice site choice. We here demonstrate that the RNA components of the spliceosome likewise influence alternative splicing decisions and contribute to the...

Background: Cyclin D1 which is associated with cell cycle regulation is solidly established as an oncogene with an important  pathogenetic role in breast carcinomas. Objectives: The aim of this study was to relate the Cyclin D1 protein overexpression with the amplification of its gene CCND1  in Estrogen Receptors (ER) positive breast carcinomas, in order to investigate the prognostic effect of their aberrations in relation to ER status, also to correlate the Cyclin D1 overexpression with other prognostic parameters.Materials and methods: Chromogenic in situ hybridization (CISH) was used to identify CCND1 ampl...

ConclusionsMRI is the best predictor of tumor size in breast cancer. Histologic type and tumor size are key parameters when estimating tumor size and should be taken into account when planning surgery. Patient age does not interfere with the interpretation of imaging tests.

ConclusionTo conclude, basal-like breast cancer represented by SUM-190 cells may be most sensitive to HCQ induced autophagy inhibition and the mechanism might be relative to Ras/Raf/ERK signaling pathway.

Conclusion: Breast MRI is an useful tool for the locoregional staging of breast cancer, because it provides useful information that can have a positive impact on patient treatment.

Abstract BACKGROUND: This randomized controlled trial aimed to investigate the effects of circumferential shaving on reducing the intraoperative margin positivity rate (MPR) during breast-conserving surgery (BCS). METHODS: Eligible breast cancer patients were randomly assigned into no-shave and shave groups. In the no-shave group, the cavity margins were collected for assessment after the tumor resection, whereas in the shave group, a circumferential shaving was performed before collecting the cavity margins. The primary outcome was the intraoperative MPR by frozen section analysis. RESULTS: A total of 1...

In this study, we turned our attention to the nucleolar accumulation of KDM2A. We found that KDM2A had multiple regions for its nucleolar localization, and one of the regions was directly bound by heterochromatin protein 1γ (HP1γ) using valine 801 in the LxVxL motif of KDM2A. A knockdown of HP1γ or a point mutation of valine 801 in KDM2A decreased the nucleolar accumulation of KDM2A, and suppressed the reduction of rRNA transcription on glucose starvation. These results uncovered a novel function of HP1γ: the regulation of rRNA transcription, and suggested that HP1γ stimulates the nucleolar ac...
