Hematochezia Decreases Use of Venous Thromboembolism Prophylaxis in Patients With Inflammatory Bowel Disease

Hospitalized patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) have a high risk of venous thromboembolism (VTE). Guidelines therefore suggest pharmacologic prophylaxis in hospitalized IBD patients without major gastrointestinal bleeding (GIB), but prior data has shown poor adherence to this. We assessed the predictors and safety of VTE prophylaxis among IBD patients hospitalized at our institution.
