Atypical macular holes

Conclusion: With the advancements in retinal imaging, atypical MHs are now more frequently recognized. With increasing understanding of the underlying disease processes, and improvement in investigations and surgical treatment, management of atypical MHs may improve in the future.

The objective of this study was to assess respiratory muscle quality and function in DMD using magnetic resonance imaging and to determine the relationship to clinical respiratory function.MethodsIndividuals with DMD (n = 36) and unaffected controls (n = 12) participated in this cross sectional magnetic resonance imaging study. Participants underwent dynamic imaging of the thorax to assess diaphragm and chest wall mobility and chemical shift-encoded imaging of the chest and abdomen to determine fatty infiltration of the accessory respiratory muscles. Additionally, clinical pulmonary function mea...

This article aims to evaluate the effectiveness, security, and performance difficulty of GIB in patients with pelvic and perineal oncological pain.MethodsA retrospective study between January 2016 and August 2017. Patients with poorly controlled pelvic oncological pain and patients experimenting opioid side effects in which GIB was performed ambulatory were included. Prognostic GIB was performed, under echographic and fluoroscopic control, with local anesthetic and corticoid. The neurolytic block was performed under fluoroscopic guidance. The technique was performed by the same anesthetist with pain management competence. ...

Male sexual dysfunction after aortoiliac surgery is a distressing complication. Erectile dysfunction and ejaculatory function postoperatively are mainly related to the methods of exposure and dissection of the aorta and iliac arteries because it is the preferred passage area of the upper hypogastric plexus, the main crossroads of the pathways of sympathetic nerves with pelvic intent. The purpose was to determine the incidence of erectile dysfunction in patients with aortoiliac occlusive disease and to compare the change in erectile function after open surgery and endovascular repair.

Conclusions: Anorectal function is impaired in IBD patients with perianal disease. Fecal incontinence correlates with poorer quality of life. Anorectal manometry and ultrasonography are useful tools for evaluating IBD patients. PMID: 31625422 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

CONCLUSIONS: This study described the characteristic of CG, number of its nerve root and some measurements relevant to intraorbital procedures in Asian population. Moreover, a new parameter was the distance between CG and scleral insertion of the lateral rectus muscle. This parameter should be considered when performing operation involved the lateral rectus muscle and BTX-A injection to lateral rectus muscle to reduce CG injury. Publication date: Available online 17 October 2019Source: Physiology &BehaviorAuthor(s): Janelle A Skinner, Manohar L Garg, Christopher V Dayas, Tracy L BurrowsABSTRACTThe neuropeptide oxytocin is best known for its role during parturition and the milk-let down reflex. Recent evidence identifies a role for oxytocin in eating behaviour. After oxytocin administration, caloric intake is reduced with stronger inhibitory effects in individuals with obesity. Whether the experience of visual food cues affects secretion or circulating levels of oxytocin is unknown. This pilot study had three aims: 1) to measure fasting appetit...

AbstractThe purposes of this human study using high-resolution manometry were to verify whether the swallowing reflex can be evoked by intra-esophageal fluid injection and whether the reflex latency and manometric variables differ depending on the injected location, amount, or speed. Ten healthy individuals participated in this study. The tip of the intranasal catheter for injection was placed at 5  cm (upper), 10 cm (upper-middle), 15 cm (lower-middle), or 20 cm (lower) from the distal end of the upper esophageal sphincter (UES). An intra-esophageal injection of 3 mL or 10 mL of thickened wat...

ConclusionOur data demonstrate that DEX sedation carries a potential risk of aspiration due to swallowing reflex depression during elevation of the larynx; therefore, suctioning of water and saliva should be rigorously performed. However, peripheral muscle contraction of the submental muscle complex, neural organization function, and timing of the swallowing reflex in relation to the respiratory cycle are not affected.

Conclusion SCG, similar to other sympathetic ganglia, show 68Ga-PSMA-11 uptake. SCG avidity may be of significance, especially in view of frequently occurring SCG oval or longitudinal shape, and moderate to high diffusion restriction in visual assessment, potentially suggesting malignancy on transverse MR plane. Diagnostic imaging specialists and clinicians should be aware of the above.
