Evaluating the incidence of inflammatory breast cancer using in population- and hospital-based cancer registries in Casablanca, Morocco.

CONCLUSIONS: Population-based registries should focus on specific measures for verifying the diagnosis of IBC since physicians may miss documenting the disease in medical records. This study may have implications for better reporting and documentation of IBC in hospital- and population-based cancer registries in Morocco and other similar countries. Background: Research on the prognostic or predictive value of Ki-67 among patients with inflammatory breast cancer (IBC) is limited. Methods: Using the comprehensive database of the Morgan Welch Inflammatory Breast Cancer Research Program at MD Anderson Cancer Center, we identified a cohort of breast cancer patients who were diagnosed with IBC between 1992 and 2012. Distributions of survival outcomes were estimated by the Kaplan-Meier method and compared by log-rank tests and Cox models. Results: Among a total of 257 patients with stage III IBC, the mean percentage of tumor cells that stained positive for Ki-67 was 48%, (ran...

Inflammatory breast cancer (IBC) is an understudied and aggressive form of breast cancer with a poor prognosis, accounting for 2-6% of new breast cancer diagnoses but 10% of all breast cancer-related deaths in the United States. Currently there are no therapeutic regimens developed specifically for IBC, and it is critical to recognize that all aspects of treating IBC - including staging, diagnosis, and therapy - are vastly different than other breast cancers. In December 2014, under the umbrella of an interdisciplinary initiative supported by the Duke School of Medicine, researchers, clinicians, research administrators, an...

ConclusionsTailoring radiotherapy to clinical risk factors was associated with excellent locoregional control. De-escalation of PMRT from BID to QD was not clearly associated with reduced toxicity compared to BID, although retrospective data collection may limit this comparison.

In this study, sentinel lymph node biopsy guided by 99mTc-Rituximab was performed in patients with breast cancer and analyzed for clinical application. Methods: Study subjects were 54 women who were diagnosed with breast cancer and were eligible according to the exclusion criteria. All patients have pathological results. The median age was 55.43±11.00 years (range, 34-74). Exclusion criteria: Patients who suffered from inflammatory breast cancer, axillary lymph node biopsy metastasis but did not receive neoadjuvant therapy, axillary lymph node biopsy metastasis and received neoadjuvant treatment but still positive. ...

ConclusionsWe successfully identified distinct groups of IBC and non-IBC cases. The reliability of IBC diagnosis would benefit from expert review of standardized medical photographs and associated clinical information.

Markus Hartl* and Rainer Schneider Center of Molecular Biosciences (CMBI), Institute of Biochemistry, University of Innsbruck, Innsbruck, Austria The neuronal proteins GAP43 (neuromodulin), MARCKS, and BASP1 are highly expressed in the growth cones of nerve cells where they are involved in signal transmission and cytoskeleton organization. Although their primary structures are unrelated, these signaling proteins share several structural properties like fatty acid modification, and the presence of cationic effector domains. GAP43, MARCKS, and BASP1 bind to cell membrane phospholipids, a process reversibly regulate...
