CADTH Rapid Response Report: Chlorhexidine impregnated wipes for pre-operative skin preparation

Source: Canadian Agency for Drugs and Technologies in Health (CADTH) Area: News This Rapid Response Report by the Canadian Agency for Drugs and Technologies in Health (CADTH) reviews the available clinical evidence and evidence-based guidelines regarding the use of chlorhexidine impregnated, non-rinse wipes for skin preparation in pre-surgical patients.   A limited literature search of key resources identified one systematic review, one randomised controlled trial, and five non-randomised studies. Overall, these indicated that pre-hospital use of chlorhexidine impregnated cloths resulted in statistically lower incidence of surgical site infections compared with in-hospital perioperative skin preparation.
