Zoledronic acid (ZOL) is used in patients with bone metastasis. We herein report our experience with the case of a 58-year-old male patient with metastatic rectal cancer who was treated with ZOL + CTX as third-line therapy, and in whom this combination appeared to be effective. Although the patient developed bone metastasis and cardiac tamponade due to the recurrence of rectal cancer, he survived for approximately 10 months after the initiation of ZOL and CTX treatment. ConclusionsDue to the proximity of the tumor to the pelvic viscera, especially the ectopic kidney, the probability of inadequate abscission of the lesion in surgery and radiotherapy, as well as complications and localized relapse were increased so that the kidney could be maintained. ConclusionA comparison of the 5-year net survival rate for R0-resected patients with colorectal cancer increased in the last period from 1995 to 2000 compared with the period from 1991 to 1995. In multivariate analysis, early stage at diagnosis and adjuvant chemotherapy was both associated with better net survival after surgery with curative intent.
