Levels of cytokines and GADA in type I and II diabetic patients
Diabetes mellitus is a complex metabolic disorder associated with hyperglycemia [1]. Diabetes cases fall into two broad categories. In one category, type I diabetes, the cause is an absolute deficiency of insulin secretion. Individuals with this type of diabetes can often be identified by genetic markers and by serological evidence of an autoimmune pathologic process occurring in the pancreatic islets. In the other much more prevalent category, type II diabetes, the cause is a combination of resistance to insulin action and an inadequate compensatory insulin secretory response [2].
