The Analgesic Efficacy of Forced Coughing During Cervical Punch Biopsy: A Prospective Randomized Controlled Study

(Abstracted from Aust N Z J Obstet Gynaecol 2018;58:681–685) Cervical punch biopsies are a common procedure performed routinely in ambulatory health care facilities and are usually performed without local anesthesia. Use of local anesthesia injections alleviates the pain associated with the procedure, but has numerous disadvantages, including risk of allergies or intravascular injection, pain from the injection itself, and lengthening procedure time.
