Tobramycin-impregnated calcium sulfate pellets for the treatment of chronic osteomyelitis in children and adolescents
The aim of this work was to evaluate the outcome and efficacy of treatment in a homogeneous group of skeletally immature patients with chronic osteomyelitis of the long bones managed by a combination of radical debridement and insertion of tobramycin-impregnated calcium sulfate pellets to fill the bone defect in a single-stage procedure. Between 2011 and 2016, 12 skeletally immature patients were treated surgically by the reported technique. Single-stage surgery using tobramycin-impregnated calcium sulfate pellets in association with systemic antibiotic therapy yields satisfactory outcomes in skeletally immature children presenting chronic osteomyelitis by reducing the risk of occurrence of comorbidities, hospital stays, and healthcare costs.
The objective of this study is to present a case of chronic suppurative osteomyelitis, demonstrating the importance of tomographic evaluation for accurate determination of its location, expansion, and severity of bone destruction using multiplanar reconstructions and 3-dimensional reconstruction. The patient is a white 63-year-old woman who attended a dental service presenting facial infection with report of 10 months of evolution after extraction of tooth 36. CONCLUSIONS: DNI treatment on an emergency basis requires proper diagnosis and effective management. ConclusionOur meta-analysis indicated that ischemic ulcer, ulcer size, ulcer grade, osteomyelitis, previous antibiotic therapy and previous hospitalization were associated with MDRO infection in patients with diabetic foot ulcers.
CONCLUSION: Cutibacterium acnes can be responsible for postoperative empyema and cerebral abscesses, with particular indolent forms, which make their diagnosis difficult. CONCLUSIONS: We were unable to identify any relevant trials on the efficacy and safety of the antibiotic treatment approaches for people with sickle cell disease suffering from osteomyelitis. Randomised controlled trials are needed to establish the optimum antibiotic treatment for this condition, however, we do not envisage further trials of this intervention will be conducted, and hence the review will no longer be regularly updated. Conclusion: Adherence to guidelines was poor, and early transition to oral therapy in the clinical practice was rarely adopted. Given the large use of potentially effective, but poorly studied, oral antibiotics such as amoxicillin/clavulanate, trimethoprim/sulfamethoxazole, and rifampicin, our data may stimulate further studies of this regard.

CONCLUSIONS: Petrous apicitis can present as a headache with features of migraine, and in this case in particular, as chronic migraine without aura. The pathophysiological mechanisms that may underlie the generation of migraine-like headache in petrous apicitis may include the activation of nociceptive fibers within the periosteum of the petrous apex and clivus whose cell bodies originate in the trigeminal ganglion and upper cervical dorsal root ganglia.
