Bleeding pyogenic granuloma of the ampulla of Vater: a rare  cause of severe chronic anemia

A 77-year-old woman was referred for recurrent severe iron deficiency anemia requiring intravenous iron supplementation intermittently for 2 years. Work-up in the past, including 2 upper endoscopies, colonoscopy, and video capsule endoscopy (VCE) performed at an outside facility, were nondiagnostic. Repeated VCE demonstrated active bleeding, possibly in the duodenum. Upper endoscopy demonstrated a 10-mm erythematous ampullary mass. Side-viewing endoscopy showed a single ampullary mass with significant contact bleeding (A).
