Nutrition Pathway for Clostridium Difficle Infection (CDI) Colitis in Long-Term Care

A Center for Disease Control National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN) study involving 38 long-term care facilities (LTC) in South Carolina (SC) identified gaps in educational and care tools addressing clostridium difficile infections (CDI), particularly with respect to the nutritional care needs and prevention of CDI through nutritional interventions. As the NHSN study results were collected, we found the CDI incidence in SC LTC settings was low, with more residents admitted to LTC with the CDI diagnosis and on treatment rather than contracting CDI during the LTC stay.
