Cerebral Embolic Protection in TAVI: Friend or Foe

Since its introduction in 2002, transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) has provided an alternative to surgical aortic valve replacement (SAVR) in patients considered inoperable or either at high or intermediate risk for SAVR.1 However, one of the most feared complications of TAVI are cerebrovascular accidents (CVA) including stroke or transient ischaemic attack.
