Long term control of luteinized thecoma with sclerosing peritonitis with leuprorelin and tamoxifen treatment

ConclusionEven in the absence of solid evidence, the combination of leuprorelin and tamoxifen could be considered as a possible medical treatment of LTSP. Considering the limitations related to the rarity of disease, further studies are needed to improve its management.

Authors: Mačiulienė A, Maleckas A, Kriščiukaitis A, Mačiulis V, Vencius J, Macas A Abstract BACKGROUND Sepsis is a life-threatening condition with high morbidity and mortality rate. Identifying early prediction factors of critical situations in intra-abdominal sepsis patients can help reduce mortality rates. This prospective study was carried out to evaluate the association of technically available factors with 30-day in-hospital mortality. MATERIAL AND METHODS There were 67 intra-abdominal sepsis patients included in the study; patients were observed for 30 days postoperatively. The data was processed u...

Klimanova Tatyana Sashenkova Ugulzhan Allayarova Anastasiya Balakina Denis Mishchenko A library of novel 2-(het)arylpyrrolidine-1-carboxamides were obtained via a modular approach based on the intramolecular cyclization/Mannich-type reaction of N-(4,4-diethoxybutyl)ureas. Their anti-cancer activities both in vitro and in vivo were tested. The in vitro activity of some compounds towards M-Hela tumor cell lines was twice that of the reference drug tamoxifen, whereas cytotoxicity towards normal Chang liver cell did not exceed the tamoxifen toxicity. In vivo studies showed that the number of surviving animals on da...

In this study, we studied the effect of the amino acid changes in 3CLpro of feline coronavirus from a feline patient who received antiviral treatment for prolonged duration. We generated recombinant 3CLpro containing the identified amino acid changes (N25S, A252S or K260 N) and determined their susceptibility to protease inhibitors in the fluorescence resonance energy transfer assay. The assay showed that N25S in 3CLpro confers a small change (up to 1.68-fold increase in the 50% inhibitory concentration) in susceptibility to GC376, but other amino acid changes do not affect susceptibility. Modelling of 3CLpro carryi...

This study aimed to investigate the factors affecting the postoperative mortality rate in patients undergoing surgery for perforated diverticulitis. Further, we compared the recovery courses of patients between open and laparoscopic surgeries. Methods: We analyzed the medical records of adult patients with peritonitis caused by perforated diverticulitis from six hospitals of Hallym University Medical Center from January 2006 to December 2016. Results: A total of 166 patients were identified. In the univariate analysis, the statistically significant factors associated with postoperative mortality were age ≥ 60 ye...

CONCLUSIONS.—: The essay begins with remarks on the oftentimes straightforward stromal tumors of the ovary because the commonest of them, the fibroma, dominates from the viewpoint of case numbers. Then, the sclerosing stromal tumor and the peculiar so-called luteinized thecomas of the type associated with sclerosing peritonitis are discussed in greater detail and their wide spectrum is illustrated. Brief mention is made of 2 rare neoplasms: the ovarian myxoma and signet-ring stromal tumor. Discussion then turns to the more recently recognized intriguing tumor tentatively designated microcystic stromal tumor and the c...

CONCLUSION: LTSP syndrome is a rare entity presenting with abdominal pain, bowel obstruction, ascites, ovarian masses, and SP containing specialized (vimentin+/keratin+/CD34+) SMF. LTSP must be distinguished from abdominal cocoon, isolated SP, Meigs' syndrome, and peritoneal carcinomatosis. The importance of recognizing the diagnosis is stressed, as failure to manage this disease conservatively leads to significant morbidity and mortality. The SP and bowel obstruction may persist for months, even after resection of the tumours, resulting in extended medical therapy. Based on the immunophenotype of the peritoneal lesions, s...
