Emergency Preparedness: Updates to Appendix Z of the State Operations Manual (SOM)

This 56-page document provides an update to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) Emergency Preparedness Rule (EP Rule); adds emerging infectious diseases to the definition of all-hazards approach; provides new Home Health Agency citations; and lists clarifications under alternate source power and emergency standby systems. In light of events such as the Ebola virus and Zika, CMS believes that facilities should consider preparedness and infection prevention within their all-hazards approach, which covers both natural and man-made disasters.
