How lateral airway tissues affect upper airway dimensions with mandibular advancement in obstructive sleep apnoea.

Conclusion: A tendinous portion of the lateral walls reduced the amount of mandibular advancement achieved in OSA patients. The mechanics of the lateral connection to the mandible modify both the anterior and lateral airway dimension with mandibular advancement, and may explain the variable response to MAS treatment.
