Score for the identification of osteoporosis in smokers (SIOS): its development using clinical, radiological and biochemical information
Conclusions: The present study demonstrated that radiological emphysema, a FRAX score for hip fracture >3%, and a β–CTX level>0.20 ng/mL were the best predictors of the presence of osteoporosis. A SIOS>2 could be use as a screening tool to help clinicians identify smokers at high risk of osteoporosis.
