Preoperative Imaging in Search of Ventricular Tachycardia Circuit

Patients with structural heart disease, especially ischemic cardiomyopathy (ICM), have an increased risk of sudden cardiac death and ventricular tachycardia (VT).1 In most of these patients the VT is dependent on a critical area of slow conduction within the myocardium. This slow conduction area typically resides in the border zone region around dense scar areas where viable cardiomyocytes exist within the fibrotic tissue.2 Catheter ablation has been proven to be an effective treatment for VT and in some cases shown to be effective when done even prophylactically.
