This study was designed to evaluate the effect of excision repair crosscomplementing group 1 (ERCC1) rs11615 codon 118C/T gene polymorphisms ontreatment outcomes in Iranian patients receiving oxaliplatin-based regimens forcolorectal (CRC) and gastric cancers (GC). Patients, who were candidates to receiveoxaliplatin-based chemotherapy, entered into the study. In 2-week intervals, thepatients received combination regimen of oxaliplatin, fluorouracil, and leucovorin(FOLFOX) for 3 months. ERCC1 rs11615 codon 118C/T polymorphism was testedby restriction fragment length polymorphism polymerase chain reaction (RFLPPCR)method usin...

AbstractBackgroundThe purpose of this study was to investigate the prognostic significance of computed tomography (CT) attenuation and F-18 fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) uptake of visceral adipose tissue (VAT) to predict peritoneal recurrence-free survival (RFS) as well as RFS and overall survival (OS) in patients with advanced gastric cancer (AGC).MethodsWe retrospectively enrolled 117 patients with AGC who underwent staging FDG positron emission tomography (PET)/CT and subsequent curative surgical resection. CT attenuation and FDG uptake (SUV) of VAT and maximum FDG uptake of primary tumor (SUVmaxT) were measured from PET/CT ...

ConclusionWe report a rare case of patient with synchronous liver metastases from gastric cancer who experienced stable disease for 7 years and 3 months following multidisciplinary modalities. Future trials are required to prospectively investigate the established regimen of multidisciplinary treatment.

Authors: Testa DC, Selvaggi F, Andreano T, Mazzola L, Cortellese R Abstract BACKGROUND: Solitary fibrous tumor (SFT) is a rare mesenchymal neoplasm affecting soft tissues with a not well defined biological behavior. SFT occurs mostly in the pleura and the thorax, while extra-thoracic localization is uncommon and abdominal localization is very rare. Histologically, SFT is a well defined mass with splindle-cell proliferation in collagenous matrix with staghorn vascular network and CD34 reactive. CASE REPORT: A 64 years-old man with a history of recurrent gastric cancer previously treated with total gastrectomy, w...

This study investigated the clinicopathologic factors associated with 2-[18F]fluoro-2-deoxy-D-glucose (18F-FDG) uptake of early gastric cancer (EGC) and used them to design a clinical scoring method to predict FDG-avidity of EGC. Two hundred twenty-nine retrospectively enrolled patients underwent preoperative 18F-FDG positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT). Histologic information was obtained by gastrectomy (n = 195) or endoscopic mucosal dissection (n = 34). The association between clinicopathologic factors and 18F-FDG uptake by the primary tumor was determined. The results were used to develop a clinic...

ConclusionsPET/CT, as a non-invasive method, can be preferred as the first choice in the detection of primary tumor in patients with BMUO.ResumenObjetivoEste trabajo analiza el papel de la PET/TC con 18F-FDG en la detección del tumor primario en pacientes con metástasis óseas de origen desconocido (MOOD).Material y MétodosEste estudio retrospectivo consideró al análisis histopatológico o el seguimiento clínico como datos de referencia en el diagnóstico de tumores primarios y estos resultados fueron comparados con los resultados de la PET/TC.ResultadosSe incluye...

Authors: Nagano N, Suzuki M, Tamura K, Kobayashi S, Kojima Y, Naka G, Iikura M, Izumi S, Takeda Y, Sugiyama H Abstract Chylothorax is the accumulation of lipid pleural effusion. Few reports have described chylothorax caused by gastric cancer. A 45-year-old woman presented with progressive lymphedema and bilateral chylothorax. Although repetitive thoracentesis was performed to relieve her dyspnea, swelling of her axillary lymph nodes became significant. Positron emission tomography/computed tomography demonstrated the accumulation of 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose in these nodes, and a lymph node biopsy showed signet ring c...
