Validating the Geriatric Depression Scale with Proxy-Based Data: A Case-Control Psychological Autopsy Study in Rural China
Psychological autopsy is a widely used method that collects data from postmortem proxy respondents, medical records, and other sources, to understand the causes and identify correlates of suicide (Conner et al., 2011; Isometsa, 2001). The validity of psychological autopsy research relies upon the validity of the information provided by informants about the deceased (Knoll, 2008). Previous literature have shown that psychiatric diagnoses can be made reliably and validly based on proxy data (Conner et al., 2001b; Zhang et al., 2003).
