Regional Distribution of Nitric Oxide Synthase in Human Anorectal Tissue: A Pilot Study on the Potential Role for Nitric Oxide in Haemorrhoids.

CONCLUSIONS: Haemorrhoids have significantly higher protein levels of NOS1 and NOS3 than rectal tissue. The vascular endothelium of haemorrhoids also has significantly higher positive immunoreactivity of NOS1 and NOS3 than rectal tissue suggesting that blood vessels in haemorrhoids are exposed to higher NO concentrations than those of rectal tissue. Since haemorrhoids exhibit marked vascular dilatation and present with bleeding or swelling, a reduction in NOS - by applying NOS inhibitors - may potentially improve the symptoms of haemorrhoids. Conclusion The association of routine video anoscopy during colonoscopy improved diagnosis of neoplastic anal lesions, allowed correct classification of the degree of hemorrhoidal disease, helped to confirm the bleeding site and detected other anal pathologies. The main findings were hemorrhoidal diseases, fissures and perianal fistulas. The study suggests that VA should be used in all colonoscopies. The figure-of-eight suture is a fascinating technique, often used in unique cases. The stitch is extremely secure and easy to place. It can be used to save time during long, complicated repairs and to create additional strength in high-tension areas. The figure-of-eight stitch can be modified to bring skin edges together or close off small bleeding arteries, varicose veins, or even bleeding hemorrhoids. Multiple figure-of-eight sutures can be used in a row.The idea is to use a single suture to surround a small area of tissue in a box shape to close a laceration or put pressure on a small site. Figure-of-eight sutures ca...

Abstract Haemorrhoids are vascular cushions that underlie the distal rectal mucosa and contribute approximately 15-20% of the resting anal pressure, ensuring complete closure of the anal canal. Apart of the wellknown chronic disturbances (prolapse, bleeding, pruritus) they can have an acute painful appearance that is a debilitating condition with an economic and social impact due to the time off work, high cost of treatments and reduction in quality of life. This complication, common in young adult patients with no gender differences and known as thrombosed haemorrhoids (TEH) can involve both the external and inte...
