DiscussionThe proposed study has several methodological benefits. First, using white noise is a suitable control condition for addressing the role of sound in pain management. Additionally, using a crossover design with repeated measurements can help control individual differences between participants, which should better distinguish between- and within-participant variability. Overall, music therapy is a safe and inexpensive intervention that does not have the problematic side effects typically associated with pharmacological treatment. If effective, music therapy can be easily implemented for reducing pain and anxiety du...

A native arteriovenous fistula (AVF) is the vascular access of choice for hemodialysis (HD) treatment. Compared with other types of vascular access such as grafts and central venous catheters, it functions longer and is associated with a lower risk of complications. The aim of the study described here was to assess, in an HD population, the position of the fistula needles during an HD session and evaluate the role of ultrasound in the management of AVF puncture. Forty-five consecutive chronic HD patients with an AVF or an arteriovenous vascular graft were included in the study for ultrasound evaluation.

This study aims to analyze the prevalence and to concentrate on the key risk factors that are responsible for hepatitis B virus (HBV), hepatitis C virus (HCV), and human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection in patients on HD visiting two dialysis centers in the city of Quetta in southwestern Pakistan. The overall incidence of HBV was found to be 16.1%, the overall incidence of HCV was found to be 43.2%, and two patients (1.6%) were found to be positive for both HBV and HCV. HIV was not found among patients seen at both hospitals during the study period. The main risk factors for development of a viral infection were the ...
