Venetoclax: A new wave in hematooncology

Eukaryotic cells can die in many ways, including physiological and mostly beneficial modes of death (e.g., apoptosis, necroptosis, and pyroptosis), as well as nonphysiological and harmful necrotic cell destruction [1]. The classical form of cell death, apoptosis, is a gene-directed process of cell suicide characterized by specific biochemical and morphological changes including activation of proteolytic enzymes, caspases, cell shrinkage, membrane blebbing, chromatin condensation, and nuclear fragmentation.
