Bronchoscopic resection of a tracheobronchial leiomyoma in a pregnant patient

Endobronchial papillomas and leiomyomas are benign tumors of the respiratory tract. Women are predominantly affected in their fourth and fifth decades. Clinical presentation of endobronchial leiomyomas depends on the tumor location, size, and its effect on the lung distal to the lesion.1 Patients usually present with symptoms due to partial or complete obstruction of the bronchus, which may include cough, wheezing, orthopnea, hemoptysis, recurrent pneumonia and bronchiectasis. Flexible bronchoscopy may be indicated to make the diagnosis, and surgical resection has been the standard treatment and has an excellent prognosis.
