Out of the 22,240 women in the United States who are diagnosed with ovarian cancer every year, only about 47 percent survive longer than five years. But Dr. Beth Karlan, the newly appointed director of cancer population genetics atUCLA ’s Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center, is hopeful that her research will not only help women get diagnosed with ovarian cancer at an earlier stage, but also identify the women who are most at-risk so they can intervene before the cancer even develops. In this interview, Karlan, who is also the vice chair of women ’s health research in the obstetrics and gynecology department in th...

ConclusionOCWAA is uniquely positioned to study the epidemiology of EOC in AA women compared with white women to address disparities. Studies of EOC have been underpowered to address factors that may explain AA-white differences in the incidence and survival. OCWAA promises to provide novel insight into disparities in ovarian cancer.

ConclusionsThis uniquely large and comprehensive meta-analysis confirms that although cigarette smoking does not appear to be a risk factor for ovarian cancer, and  it is even slightly protective for some rare histotypes, there is a strong dose–risk relationship with mucinous ovarian cancer.

The objective of the present study was to evaluate biodistribution and extravasation of the Pluronic-stabilized lipid nanobubbles compared with microbubbles in 2 experimental tumor models in mice. Standard lipid-stabilized perfluoropropane bubbles (Pluronic L10) and lipid-stabilized perfluoropropane nanobubbles were intravenously injected into mice bearing either an orthotopic mouse breast cancer (BC4 T1) or subcutaneous mouse ovarian cancer (OVCAR-3) through the tail vein to perform perfusion dynamic studies.

Abstract BACKGROUND The aim of this study was to explore the effect of dexmedetomidine (DEX)-mediated insulin-like growth factor 2 (IGF2) signal pathway on immune function and cancer cell invasion and migration in rats with ovarian cancer. MATERIAL AND METHODS Forty rats with ovarian cancer were divided into 4 groups: model group, and low dose (0.2 μg/kg/hour DEX), medium dose (1.0 μg/kg/hour DEX), and high dose (5.0 μg/kg/hour DEX) DEX groups. In addition, 10 Fischer344 rats were selected as a normal group. Human NUTU-19 poorly differentiated epithelial ovarian cancer cell line cells were divided into 4 ...

Authors: Komura N, Mabuchi S, Yokoi E, Shimura K, Kawano M, Matsumoto Y, Kimura T Abstract Objective: We retrospectively investigated the prognostic significance of the pretreatment prognostic nutritional index (PNI) in patients with epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC) according to the clinical stage. Methods: The baseline characteristics and clinical outcomes of 308 EOC patients were collected and retrospectively reviewed. PNI was defined as 10 × serum albumin (g/L) + 0.005 × lymphocyte count (per mm3) in the peripheral blood. The cut-off value of PNI was defined by time-dependent receiver operating ch...

As torsional stress is generated by replication and transcription we tested the effects of clinically used TOP1 inhibitors Topotecan and SN-38 on TNF-induced gene expression. RNA-seq experiments showed that inhibition of TOP1 activit...
