AimGuanidinoacetate N-methyltransferase (GAMT) is the second essential enzyme in creatine (Cr) biosynthesis. Short-term Cr deficiency is metabolically well tolerated as GAMT–/– mice exhibit normal exercise capacity and response to ischemic heart failure. However, we hypothesized long-term consequences of Cr deficiency and/or accumulation of the Cr precursor guanidinoacetate (GA).MethodsCardiac function and metabolic profile were studied in GAMT–/– mice>1 year.ResultsIn vivo LV catheterization revealed lower heart rate and developed pressure in aging GAMT–/– but normal lung weight and ...

CONCLUSIONS: Age and female gender are associated with lower CFR, and age with worse CFC in an angiographically non-obstructed coronary artery. CFC seems to be less sensitive to variations in clinical and hemodynamic parameters than CFR, and therefore is a promising tool in contemporary clinical decision making in the cardiac catheterization laboratory. Mortality after ST elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) has declined sharply over the last two decades as early reperfusion technology was improved and implemented. Systems of care designed for accurate pre-hospital diagnosis of STEMI and activation of cardiac catheterization laboratories (CCL) have decreased the time to revascularization of the coronary artery.1 –4 Simultaneously, percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) has improved with enhanced techniques and multiple generations of stent technology increasing success rates and minimizing complications.

Patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS) who present to hospitals without interventional facilities frequently require transfer to another hospital equipped with a cardiac catheterization laboratory. This r...

ConclusionECV in PH as obtained using CMR appears to correlate with known echocardiographic prognostic markers and more specifically with the markers, which assess RV systolic function.

This study assesses the effects of ivabradine, atenolol, and placebo in the setting of murine peritonitis. Mice that received atenololversus ivabradine both experienced a similar and significant decline in heart rate. The mice in the atenolol group also experienced a significant decrease in cardiac output, systolic blood pressure, and left ventricular systolic function that was not experienced by the mice who received ivabradine.Mice who received atenolol versus ivabradine versus placebo did not have significantly different survival 60 h after induction of sepsis. Future studies are needed to determine the value of ivabrad...

We examined the correlates of R-V/A and traditional echocardiographic indices of RVSD, over the spectrum of pulmonary hypertension and tertiles of mean pulmonary artery pressures (PAPm). Methods In 2016–2017, we studied 81 consecutive patients for heart transplant/advanced heart failure. Inclusion criteria were NIDCM, reduced ejection fraction (≤40%) and sinus rhythm. R-V/A was computed as the RV/pulmonary elastances ratio (R-Elv/P-Ea), derived from a combined right heart catheterization/transthoracic- echocardiographic assessment [right heart catheterization/transthoracic-echocardiographic (RHC/TTE)]. Results...

The radial artery is becoming the vessel of choice for performing cardiac catheterization. Transradial catheterization can impose risks on the upper extremity, and hand surgeons should be aware of the most frequent complications. The purpose of this study was to determine the frequency, timing, and scope of upper-limb complications shortly after transradial catheterization.

The clinical utility of echocardiography for the diagnosis of pulmonary vascular disease (PVD) in former preterm infants with bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) is not established. Elevated pulmonary vascular resistance (PVR) rather than pulmonary artery pressure (PAP) is the hallmark of PVD. We evaluated the utility of echocardiography in infants with BPD in diagnosing pulmonary hypertension and PVD (PVR>3 Wood units  × m2) assessed by cardiac catheterization.
