This is what I said in that thread: To be a neurosurgeon in the UK, you have to study Medicine at a medical school first. That is normally 5 years (£9k tuition / year for the first 4 years, last year is paid for). After graduation you have to work 2 years as a Foundation Doctor (paid work), then apply for Neurosurgery as a specialty. Many doctors do not get in the first time (competition ratio is around 5 or 6 to 1 post). The training, once you have got in, lasts 7 years.
